I did not really think that the 3-hour glucose tolerance test literally meant I had to stay at the lab for a duration of 3 long hours. Before my appointment, I considered that possibility, dismissed it, and the thought just slipped out of my mind. Oh well. I had to fast for 10 hours prior to the test. First, they took a vial of blood. Second, I had to drink a big bottle of super-sweet Sprite-like liquid (which contained only a trace of carbonation...it was mostly cold and flat) in 5 minutes or less. I gulped the first half down and the gag reflex kicked in suddenly. I almost vomited but suppressed the urge. I paced myself for the second half and downed only a little bit at a time. Third, they took another vial of blood. An hour later, another vial of blood was taken. Finally, they took the last sample of blood an hour later. All these samples equate to 4 separate vials of blood. I was hungry, bored, and tired, but ultimately relieved that it was all over. I will be avoiding Sprite and 7-Up for a long, long time. Ugh.

We were planning to get lunch and take a stroll through a bookstore, but we were too worn out from all the waiting. We went home and Matt had noodles for lunch and I had leftover oreganoed pizza. Yum. I then surfed onto Amazon and bought The Notebook and A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks. Not even close to lingering and browsing in a huge bookstore, but cool nevertheless.
