I have started reading House Of Leaves. I love it. It unnerves me. Spooks me. Puzzles me. It simultaneously imprisons and releases my senses. I have actually been a bit frightened at night ever since I opened the book up. It is not a simple task to give me goosebumps both inside and outside. I usually laugh at horror movies, books and the like. It takes a lot of talent to give me real chills.
Listening to Poe's Haunted has even deeper layers of meaning now, being that (as I mentioned previously in another entry) her album was inspired by his book. In an interview that I read online, Danielewski says :
"She was my only reader. And she would read bits of House of Leaves, and they would inspire her. And she would write a song, and then I'd listen to the song, and it would move me in a certain direction."
This kind of brother-sister creative collaboration and relationship is so inspiring. They are both WONDERFUL.
Now, I will go read some more of the book. I am hooked.
And I am only up to Page 13.
