I haven’t updated all weekend. Time to fill you in. My birthday was on Saturday. 25. It’s official. I’m really a twenty-something woman now. That number 25 still looks young to me, thank goodness. It’s getting to the point where it’s sometimes difficult to remember how old I am. It’s like I have to momentarily stop myself and just think about it…Hmmm…I am twenty…five!! Yeah, that’s it. Twenty-five years old.
M., my brother, and I went to the history museum that day. Tim had his report to do. M. and I tagged along. I got the chance to ride the bus and subway again. Public transportation is cool once in while. Buses are rather boring and uneventful. The subway is a totally different matter. The noise. The people. The ride itself. The chaos. Hehe. And the music too. We briefly saw and heard musicians playing the oboe, the xylophone, and a cymbals/drum set in the subway car and out on the subway platform. Pretty cool. The subway can pretty exciting . Especially if there are genuinely crazy people around. Hehe. I certainly didn’t enjoy it when I had to take it everyday when I was going to college. Ick. That’s when the crowds, noise, traffic, the waiting, and everything else gets to you. You just want some peace.
The museum was fun…only stayed about a few hours there, but that was as much as we could take. My feet were killing me too…I have to swear to myself I won’t wear platform boots to the museum anymore. Ouch….my toes were begging for mercy. Well…here’s some random things I saw at the museum : wooly mammoths, dinosaurs, tribal weapons, tribal people, ancient Chinese marriage carriages, spirit healing, huge buddhas, elephants, naked village people, the sun, moon, stars, the Earth as it changed during billions of years, prehistoric tortoises, sharks, Japanese demons, Korean art…and on and on. And on. I love the history museum. I can never really get enough. It’s a totally different world in there. Past worlds, present worlds, future worlds.
After the museum, we wanted to go to a record store, but had no idea where one was near the museum…it figures…I live here all my life and know absolutely nothing about the city. Heh. We walked a couple of blocks in the freezing cold. I didn’t bring a jacket along…I was only wearing a short sleeved top with a cotton knit and satin sweater shirt over it. BRRRRR. I have to accept the fact that winter coats are a necessity now. So we walked…finally we spotted a Starbucks and what seemed like a shopping area, but damn…it was getting dark and progressively chillier. We just nixed the idea of hanging around in the city and went down into the next subway station, where it was so warm and toasty. After we got off the subway and went up onto the bus stop, we went into a Haagen Daz. YUMMM. I had a Bailey’s Shake…delicious. I have been hankering for something like that all week. And I got it. I had fun. We had fun.
When we got home, D. was so happy to see M. and me. He laughed and jumped into our arms. My mom had given him the CUTEST haircut while we were gone. Oh he looks a million times cuter than he already is...he's BURSTING with cuteness. I could hardly stop hugging and kissing my baby. I missed him all day long.
I was also anxious to find out if my music cds came in the mail yet. And it DID!!! I let out a yelp of glee…Ooohhh!!!!! I ripped open the package and lovingly looked through my shiny new cds…4 Bjork cds, 1 Vanessa Mae cd, 1 Staind cd, 1 Jennifer Lopez cd, and 1 Everything But The Girl cd. The rest of the cds were M.’s choices. I listened to Bjork’s Debut late at night. I haven’t listened to her in ages. I had two Bjork tapes a couple of years back, but I sold them recently in an attempt to get rid of my HUGE cassette tape collection. Yeah, I was an idiot to have been a cassette tape slave when I should have been amassing what would have been a SUPERIOR cd collection. I still have lots to sell. GRRRRR. Listening to Bjork was so GOOD. I miss that voice.
Today, I did most of my Christmas shopping at Amazon.com. I also bought myself the new Poe cd (finally!! Hallelujah!!), Bjork’s Selmasongs and the book The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. My own X-mas gifts. I am so excited!!
Thanksgiving is this Thursday!! I love family get-togethers. And oh do I WORSHIP the food. I may even sip some champagne.
